Framed maps set the scene for home decor
An idea stemming from a chance spotting at home wares shop has set me on a path to map out the decor direction of my dining room. I can spend hours wandering through furniture, antique, home wares and interior decorating stores – and I mean hours! I literally do circles around the whole store (a little embarrassing, right?), but just as you think you’ve seen it all something else will stand out and grab your attention. On this particular occasion, it was a set of framed, vintage-themed maps of the City of Lights – Paris!
Noting the out-of-my-budget price tag, I left the shop with a longing… it would be perfect in my dining room! My home has a worldly/travel element throughout and I thought this vintage map with modern frame would tie into that, while also helping to achieve the eclectic style I’m going for.
DIY is on my list of things to do – the actual act of ‘doing it yourself’, that is. I’ve collected bits and pieces over the years and had grand plans to create something really amazing, but the will and spare time has just not been there. Until now! (I’m experiencing so much garage sale remorse right now!)
I still have a lot of maps that I collected during my European travels so I might finally have found a practical use for them once again. Granted they’re not exactly vintage, but there are so many different options – it’s really a matter of personal taste and experimentation!
