Sugar-free meal plan: week 10
Challenge complete: I did not buy one grocery item this week. The challenge I set last week was followed through by me being frugal and creative, but also benefiting from the generosity of good friends who gave me eggs from their farms and, of course, my family who supplied me with some grass-fed beef from their farm.
To start the week I slow cooked a rolled lamb shoulder which supplied me with all the meat I needed for the seven days and a delicious jus to add to my ‘fry ups’ – why add sauce with its artificial colours, flavourings, preservatives, sugar and salt when you can make use of what the lamb has to offer (ever heard of Love Food Hate Waste)? While my meal plan relied on me making use of mostly the same ingredients all week, I felt as though I achieved good variety by altering the mix here and there and changing the way I cooked something.
Winter is a fantastic time to make food go a long way. The cheaper cuts of meat are perfect for winter stews or hearty casseroles and there is an abundance of vegetables that make great soups. This week I made pumpkin soup and carrot and coconut curry soup – so sweet and tasty!
I think you’ll find this week’s sugar-free meal plan gets back to basics. It’s simple and sustaining. I found I rarely snacked this week because I was eating decent meals in the middle of the day that fuelled my body with protein and nutrient rich vegetables.
I did attempt to create a ‘sweet treat’ though… I apologise for not already having the recipe to my sugar-free caramel slice on my blog, but it’s yet to be perfected!
