How to manifest – Step 1 of 3: Set your intention
When I decided to write a book, I had no idea what was in store. What I did know was that I hadn’t been through hell and back for no good reason, and that I would one day save another’s life. That was the seed. That was when and how I began to manifest a publishing contract. In this mini blog trilogy, you will discover how to manifest what you want in three easy steps and I will show you a real life example of how manifestation works.
Step 1: Set your intentions
The first step to manifest your dream or desire is to set your intention and write it down.
…but first get really clear about what you want
Don’t confuse what you truly want with what you think you want. The reason so many people fail to manifest their dream or desire is because they miss this crucial mini-step. Only when you are clear about what you want, can you confidently set your intention and start the manifestation process.
Take a moment to think about what you want right now. What would it take to make you happy this very instant?
- A chocolate bar?
- A house cleaner?
- A holiday in the Bahamas?
OK. Now why?
- Because you are bored?
- Because your house is a mess?
- Because you are stressed?
OK. Again, why?
- Because you want stimulation?
- Because you want order and serenity?
- Because you want all of the above?
OK. Now we’re getting somewhere. To manifest any dream or desire, don’t confuse what you truly want with what you think you want.
…and know why you want what you want
Knowing why you want what you want is more important that knowing how to get it. Think about the last time you booked a holiday. Did you at first know exactly where you wanted to go, or did you just know that you wanted to slow down, unwind and relax a little – because you were stressed or bored or in another undesirable state? To manifest any dream or desire, knowing why you want what you want is more important that knowing how to get it.
When I was 15 and recovering from anorexia and depression, I began to see glimpses of the early stages of my journey reflected in my friends’ lives. I could empathise with where they were at and what they were going through, so I spoke with them about my experience and listened to theirs. Seeing and hearing their suffering when my own was still so raw cemented my resolution: I didn’t want anyone to suffer the way I or my family had. I wrote down intention in my diary at the time and told my parents that one day I would write a book about my experience so that no one would have to suffer the way I or my family had.
In my workshop, Finding an Inspired Life, I’ve teamed up with Amanda from Finding Eco to help you get clear about what you want and why you want it. Together we’ll talk more about setting intentions so you can begin to manifest your dreams and desires.
For now, let me know what you truly want and why you want it in the comments below, and stay tuned for Step 2 in my “How to manifest” series…
