What makes this green smoothie so great?
This green smoothie contains:
Kale – which is high in calcium, fibre, and iron meaning it helps strengthen your bones, keep you regular, and oxygenates the body’s cells. It’s a great anti-inflammatory food thanks to its Omega-3 content, which helps to keep our bowels clean and regular. It also contains vitamins A, C and K, which benefits skin and vision, boost the immune system and further aids bone health and blood clotting.
Coconut protein – I use 180 Natural Protein Superfood. It contains flaxseeds which are are a great source of fibre, lignans, protein, omega 3, vitamins, and minerals; almond meal which is good for energy production, nervous system function, skin health thanks to its high levels of good fats, protein, magnesium, potassium, vitamin E and B; anti-inflammatory sunflower kernals; coconut meal – sweet but without the nasties and high in natural fibre; chia seeds which are seriously high in protein, calcium, omega fatty acids antioxidants and fibre; and so much more.
Banana – high in fiber, potassium, vitamin C and B6, and tryptophan – an amino acid that studies suggest plays a role in preserving memory and boosting your mood.
Raspberries – also a good source of potassium and with anti-inflammatory properties, you’re sure to be feeling optimal after a workout with this green smoothie.
Spirulina – there is some great info on the health benefits of spiruliana here.
Greek yoghurt – another great source of potassium, vitamin B12, calcium and protein, not to mention probiotics, which are great for the digestive system.
Cacao nibs – as pure as chocolate can get, these powerful little bites are great for regulating heart and blood vessels, blood sugar level, and just keeping you regular full stop.
OK, enough, enough, I hear you say… onto the really important stuff!
